2025 CKF Northern Kentucky Lakes Winner Ed Schemine

  1. How and why did you get started fishing CKF/ what is your rig? I currently fish out of a 2021 PA 14 180. I also have an Old Town PDL 106 that I use for smaller waters and rivers which I won as an AOY prize in another organization. I started fishing Kayak tournaments around 2020. At that time I was just entering any online event that I could find on TourneyX as well as BKFT events. I think I fished a few CKF events off and on, but just really this year decided to try to fish as many of the CKF events as possible. Both the OKF and CKF series are my favorites, and I look forward to fishing both again next year. LOL. Do we have the 2026 schedules yet?
  2. 2. PB largemouth and PB Smallmouth. My PB largemouth is 22.50 which I caught in a BKFT event. My PB Smallmouth I don't really know, maybe a few 18 inches, not really sure, maybe they were only 17 inches ...
  3. 3. Favorite CKF lake to fish why? I would have to say I prefer single lakes on the schedule where everyone has to fish the same body of water. To me this seems to be the fairest way to fish an event. But having said that, I would like to see the 150 mile radius event on the schedule next year as that would give me a chance to fish a body of water that I normally don't fish in a tournament. But to be honest, I guess my favorite lake is constantly changing depending how well or terrible I do on it.
  4. 4. You have one rod reel and bait forever what are you throwing? I use spinning rods and reels. I guess the reel might not matter, but I like a super stiff rod. If I could put a reel on a pool cue that is probably what I would use all the time. My bait of choice would be Texas rigged plastic, or a jig.
  5. 5. What's your biggest fishing strength? Well, the next question about Biggest Weakest is going to be a lot easier to answer. Humm. Not quite sure. I guess I am getting a little better at applying what I learned at one lake to other lakes when I am in a bind and not catching fish. I try to think about what worked well at other lakes in similar conditions and apply that to the situation at hand and make appropriate changes.
  6. 6. Biggest weakness. Lots of them. But the main 2 that come to mind are. 1) When the event is multiple choice lakes or rivers, no matter how much map reading I do ahead of time or pre-fishing I do, I tend to find myself at the wrong body of water or location on the water (compared to where the winning bags came from). 2) I can be pretty stubborn about thinking something should work and sticking with it, instead of changing (ex. locations, baits, etc.). I plan to retire within the next year or so which should allow me more time to spend pre-fishing (or at least that is the plan).
  7. 7. What CKF’r do you want to beat most in an event. Who has the target on their back for you personally? I tend not to look at the leaderboard results while I am out fishing, until I get 5 fish on the board. At that time, I guess the person(s) to beat would be the folks ahead of me. Sorry, I don't really have any particular person to mention here :(
  8. 8. Tell us something non fishing related that we don’t know about you? I have been married to my wife Kathy for 36 years. We have 3 children (Dentist, Nurse, and I.T. professional) and 2 grandchildren (with a 3rd on the way). Besides fishing I have/had many hobbies over the years. This is going way way back, but I guess it gives me a chance to recollect some memories... Ohio University Fight Night Champion (Boxing) Alaska Arm Wrestling Championships Champion 9-time Ironman Triathlon finisher (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, and 26.2 mile run) - I am slow in the 15-16 hour range. ~20 Marathon finishes American/National/World previous record holder in 10 different Powerlifting federations in the Master Divisions (another way of saying Old Folks divisions) Won Overall Best Lifter Award at 3 different World Strict Curling championships (including 1 in Las Vegas which was pretty cool).
